Punk drummer then Songwriter then Dharma Practitioner then Social Justice Educator then EMDR/Trauma/Addiction Therapist then Author/Podcaster now simultaneously...

I have been working in partnership with other clinicians, treatment centers, musicians, artists, educators and social justice advocates for many years now.  These partnerships have allowed me to do the work that I have done at a greater scale, with a diversity of viewpoints and creativity.  The partnerships on this site are the ones that I currently engage in fully, sometimes as a leader, sometimes as a collaborator.  The result is an ever expanding community filled with diverse ideas, strategies, brainstorms and projects.  They cover my therapeutic endeavors, mindfulness training, and digital and traditional media creation.

REFUGE RECOVERY CENTERS is the premiere Buddhist addictions treatment program, providing comprehensive care from Detoxification/Residential through Transitional Living.  As Clinical Director, I helped founder Noah Levine and others to create and launch the program.

As as Co-Founder of Refuge Recovery Centers, I am the Clinical Director - responsible for assisting with the vision and implementation of their cutting edge addictions treatment program based on the book Refuge Recovery by Noah Levine. I helped Noah and others to envision and establish the initial Intensive Outpatient Center, which has now grown into a comprehensive treatment center providing care from detox through residential and on to Intensive Outpatient, Sober Living and Transitional Living.I have the opportunity to lead a staff of clinicians, Dharma teachers, therapist interns and trainees, and case managers as we provide care for individuals with addictions and trauma.

I have the exciting opportunity to engage my over 25 years of Buddhist mindfulness training and my work as an EMDRIA Approved Consultant and Certified Therapist to create a healing environment where these best practices are delivered to clients, while clinicians and others who work with us internally and externally receive the best training in Buddhist mindfulness and trauma therapy. All of this occurs in an environment I like to describe as "Both/And rather than Either/Or," where those who subscribe to the 12 steps or other modalities of healing are supported in those journeys as well. The community and the treatment feels, as a result, inclusive.

Dr. Jamie Marich, author of several books on EMDR and trauma, has created an EMDR training platform, the Institute for Creative Mindfulness, a division of her company Mindful Ohio. As an EMDRIA Approved Consultant, I have joined Jamie’s faculty and am now available to provide EMDR Basic Training and special topics in EMDR training nationally and internationally.

This partnership has been years in the making. Jamie's commitment to EMDR and mindfulness has been unparalleled, and our deep belief in the power of EMDR therapy as well as mindfulness based therapies gives us a clear mission together. Our partnership took its next step with the release of our book EMDR Therapy and Mindfulness for Trauma Focused Care by Springer Books in November 2017.

Against the Stream Buddhist Meditation Society was founded by Noah Levine. ATS grew out of the Dharma Punx community, and has since become national and international in its scope. The Buddhist lineage of the Center is that of the Thai Forest Monks and Jack Kornfield. I teach classes and lead retreats at the two Los Angeles centers in Santa Monica and East Hollywood, as well as the center in San Francisco and affiliated centers in other locations including Seattle.

THE CAMDEN CENTER provides Intensive Outpatient Services and Transitional Living for people with PTSD, depression, and anxiety as well as addiction, although an addiction diagnosis is not necessary. Founder Dr. Jason Shiffman has brought together the top clinicians and providers in Los Angeles to provide truly individualized treatment.

At Camden Center, I see several patients each week with a focus on Mindfulness and Anger Management. I also conduct Mindfulness groups and Anger Management groups. My partnership with Camden Center is the result of my high regard for Dr. Jason Shiffman and the team he has assembled, as well as their focus on diagnoses other than addiction. Dr. Shiffman was previously responsible for developing the Dual Diagnosis Anxiety program at UCLA. The team represents some of the best psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists, massage therapists, acupuncturists, hypnotherapists and coaches in the greater Los Angeles area. Especially when someone comes to me with concerns other than addiction, particularly in the area of trauma resolution, Camden Center is a solid place for the client to land if they need a higher level of care.

Ridgeview Ranch is a 12-step based rehab in Altadena, CA that has begun to adopt the MET(T)A Method. My role as Clinical Supervisor there includes training clinicians in EMDR therapy, providing supervision and EMDR consultation, and trauma training to staff. Mindfulness training at the facility is beginning as well to complete all aspects of the Method. Ridgeview Ranch provides all levels of care from Detox to Residential, from PHP to IOP and OP.

StartAgain Associates is a group of clinicians who are all trained in EMDR therapy utilizing the mindfulness based training principles proposed in my coauthored book (with Jamie Marich) EMDR Therapy and Mindfulness for Trauma Focused Care. The long term goal of StartAgain Associates is to create centers in the greater Los Angeles area and beyond where the MET(T)A Protocol and the MET(T)A Method are the guiding principles for delivery of services and supervision of associates.
